Having already established Molly's on Toulouse, Carol and Jim Monaghan opened the doors to Molly's at the Market for the first time in 1974. In 1980, Jim sold Molly's on Toulouse to focus his attention and efforts on Decatur Street, The French Market and Lower French Quarter. Over the course of 30 years, Molly's has become the hang-out for local, national and international media and political figures.

Part of what makes Molly's so unique is the eclectic collection of people, personalities and artifacts. Like every good bar, some of our regulars certainly fall under two or more of those categories.

Every year Molly's sponsors a St. Patrick's Day Parade and a Halloween Parade. In the wake of the catastrophe in 2005 known as Hurricane Katrina, Molly's stayed open throughout the ordeal, providing a respite for locals and relief workers alike. The Halloween Parade even went on as scheduled.

After more than 30 years, Molly's has shown itself to be a staple of the authentic "New Orleans Experience", or as we like to call it, everyday life.
